A special event is going on at the Gwangju Metro for children this summer.

From July 20th to August 31st, children who complete “The Cultural Exploration, Stamp Tour of Gwangju's Subway Stations” will be awarded small gifts.

The authority expects more and more people will visit the various subway stations around the city which are designated to give stamps.

Anyone who wants to participate can go any subway ticket booth and get a booklet called the ‘stamp tour map’(스탬프 투어맵).

There are 8 stations that you can get stamps from.

Each station marked with a star can stamp the tour booklets.  The first 300 people, who complete their tour booklets, will be awarded small gifts, such as stamps, erasers, diaries, mouse pads or magic bands.

There are a few conditions to get stamps in your tour booklet and since only 300 early birds are getting souvenirs kids have to act quick. You have to use the subway before or after you get the stamps. At the office in each station, they will check your subway cards to confirm whether you have come from somewhere else. If you begin from the station you get stamps, they watch to confirm whether you get on the train later.

This is what you get from the subway station office. I got one stamp from the Geum-nam ro 5 ga Station.

Each of the participating stations have themes for this event. The photos hanging on the wall were great. You can see the history of the adjacent station areas. This might be great chance to learn about the areas around the stations, let kids get out for the day and let parents enjoy the air conditioned subway trains.
