  1. [2010/06/17] the Mujin Wall

the Mujin Wall

Summer is just around the corner. When summer comes I always needed a place to hide and feel the breeze in the shade blow my sweat away. The entire area of the city is covered with black asphalt and it is hard to find a place where you can relax under the trees. Even if you are able to find shade, you will be distracted by cars and trucks along the road.

During the hot summer days and nights, I used to go up Mt. Mudeung either by bus (1187 or 187) or bicycle. From Sansu 5 junction, about a 2km long road, you can find a steep hill soaring in front of you. On the top of the first hill, Mujin Gosung(무진고성, Mujin ancient castle wall) is located on the top of Jot Gogae(잣고개). During the day, one bottle of cold water and one piece of newspaper are enough for me to rest on the top of the Mujin Wall. I like to lay on the wall and look down upon Gwangju city. It is one of the best views of Gwangju city. An observation platform on the corner is also worth a visit if you never been there before.

At night, many couples drive up to this point and pull over their cars on the side of the road, or they walk along the wall for about half an hour. This much time will take you to a much better place where you can look down upon Gwangju city with less people.
