Gwangju Dam and the Eco-park (생태공원)

Tuesday night it rained, rather it poured, and the sky sounded as if it were in anger. Sometimes it was so loud it sounded as if I were in a rock concert. Like I said it poured.

On days like this, I like to go Gwangju Dam where Mt. Mudeung is located. There, you can find many cars waiting in line to park. This is where the Eco-park (생태공원) is located

Last year when the amount of rain was so low, this dam which supplies the drinking water for Gwangju City dried up. This is why I like go after a day of hard rain. Water tops off the dam.

There is a big rock where you can go and take photos just like you are standing on the water. This rock, maybe today, is impossible to see where it is since it has rained a lot. People around me say they have never seen the water level rise to this height.

This dam, or you may say an artificial lake, is little but this park is big enough to walk around for two hours. Once you get there, many families hold hands or their loved ones. Under the trees, people talk in pairs about whatever is on their minds. Furthermore, at its name implies Eco-park shows some eco-friendly animal habitats.

Not far from Gwangju, probably about 20 minutes from Sansu 5 junction, 25 minutes by bus, you can get to this place. Enjoy the vivid green colors and enjoy the shining sun. By bike, it will take about 4 hours to get there back.

the Mujin Wall

Summer is just around the corner. When summer comes I always needed a place to hide and feel the breeze in the shade blow my sweat away. The entire area of the city is covered with black asphalt and it is hard to find a place where you can relax under the trees. Even if you are able to find shade, you will be distracted by cars and trucks along the road.

During the hot summer days and nights, I used to go up Mt. Mudeung either by bus (1187 or 187) or bicycle. From Sansu 5 junction, about a 2km long road, you can find a steep hill soaring in front of you. On the top of the first hill, Mujin Gosung(무진고성, Mujin ancient castle wall) is located on the top of Jot Gogae(잣고개). During the day, one bottle of cold water and one piece of newspaper are enough for me to rest on the top of the Mujin Wall. I like to lay on the wall and look down upon Gwangju city. It is one of the best views of Gwangju city. An observation platform on the corner is also worth a visit if you never been there before.

At night, many couples drive up to this point and pull over their cars on the side of the road, or they walk along the wall for about half an hour. This much time will take you to a much better place where you can look down upon Gwangju city with less people.
