On Saturday evening a concert hosted by Gwangju International Center will take place at Mugaksa Temple in Gwangju. The diverse program includes traditional Korean music and dancing, including a Korean 25-string zither performance. The Korean zither or Geomungo was first played in the 4th century in the kingdom of Goguryeo. The Geomungo is usually played while seated on the floor, and the strings are plucked with a short stick of bamboo.

There will also be a sand animation show and a poetry reading. In addition, dance acts from the Philippines, China and Thailand will perform at the moonlight concert.

GIC members set up online arts journal

User image

Gwangju International Center members Selina Orrell and Maria Lisak have set up a new arts journal.

Called the Social Discourse of Disquiet, the online journal aims to be a platform for writers, artists and photographers to share their work.

The journal is looking for artists who would like their work publicized and contributors for writing and photography. Its creators are also keen to receive feedback and opinions on the project.

The creators stress that the journal is a work-in-progress, but it can be visited at http://gicjournal.wordpress.com/.
