1.Gwangju Biennale opens today
The opening ceremony of the 8th Gwangju Biennale will take place today with exotic performances and experiential activities. The Biennale continues from September 3rd through November 7th.
The opening ceremony is taking place one day prior to the actual opening for the first time, in front of the Biennale building in Yongbong-dong at 7 P.M.
Gang Un-tae, the mayor of
134 artists from 31 countries will participate in the 8th Biennale which takes place at the Biennale building, the Gwangju Museum of Art, and Yangdong Market.
2.High class arts market opens for five days
Gwangju Art Fair 2010, the first international art fair in Gwangju, has opened. It will continue from September 1st through the 5th.
The market which opened at 5 P.M. at the
Damien Hirst’s New Religion, which was decorated by Inter Art Channel Gallery, attracted the biggest number of spectators.
It is made up of 13 works and it is estimated to be worth 5 billion won, the most expensive among the works exhibited at the fair.
This art fair has combined design with art, hence designed art works also attracted people.
As the Gwangju Biennale is opening, global collectors are also turning their interests to the fair.

3.National Gwangju Museum renovated
The 30 year-old
The museum announced that it recently finished renovating the exhibition rooms and other areas and is reopening on September 3rd.
The exhibition room has been changed to more effectively use space and provide a comfortable environment to visitors.
Environmentally friendly materials and LED lights were used to increase energy efficiency. Cultural space for children was expanded. A feeding room for mothers and a resting place for visitors were also installed.
The regular exhibition room has been strengthened by showing 1,684 pieces that will enable spectators to understand the historical flow in sequence.
To commemorate the reopening, a special exhibition will continue until October 24th.
