Here are a few videos and pictures which might help readers understand the horrors that the people of Gwangju experienced thirty years ago.

The music is titled "임을 위한 행진곡 (Imeul Wihan Haengjingog)", which means "March for the beloved". The music was written for a couple who were killed during Gwangju Uprising during May 1980.

Nothing much to say about this video other than it is good to see that has survived as it is very important to the history of the Gwangju Uprising.

More about the maker of this video,  David Dolinger, and his role in the Gwangju Uprising can be found here.

The following photos do a great job of giving us a clearer picture of the hell that was experienced on the streets of Gwangju during the Uprising. These photos are easy to find in various sources online and seem to be in the public domain. If you feel that I haven't given correct credits please let me know and I will rectify that.

The black-and-white photographs are a little deceptive, and maybe trick people into thinking it was longer ago than it actually was. If readers here didn't experience it, their parents certainly did.

Interesting shots. I know a few people personally who had memories of this event and or were involved in some way.

I thought it interesting that in picture 2 and 7 it seems like the demonstrators have some pretty heavy duty weapons. Does anyone out there know how they were able to get those weapons?

They got them from Hwasun armory.
They had to. The 240B, M249 or .50cal were in Hwasun for the emergency.
